PRESS RELEASE People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. Thursday, September 23, 2004.

The People's National Congress Reform notes with amazement a report on page 22 of today’s Stabroek News of Thursday September 23, 2004, “PPP/C waits on PNCR reply”. The report states: “PPP/C administration continues to await a favourable response from the PNCR to its repeated requests to initiate the recommencement of discussions to bring about parliamentary conclusion of their outstanding issues” and attributes these sentiments to Dr Roger Luncheon in his post Cabinet media briefing.

The PNCR does not wish to be embroiled in a sterile public debate on this matter but would wish to state for the record that it received one letter from Dr Luncheon dated August 24, 2004, that was delivered to Congress Place on August 26, 2004, when the Party was absorbed in activities connected with its 14th Biennial Congress. The General Secretary responded by letter dated September 6, 2004 and this letter was delivered to the Office of the President on September 7, 2004 at 1.40 pm and signed for by a C. Johnson.

The PNCR is making a copy of Dr Luncheon’s letter of August 24, 2004 and the General Secretary’s letter dated September 6, 2004 available to the media.

It is significant that paragraph 3 of Dr Luncheon’s letter acknowledges receipt of earlier correspondence from the PNCR which was sent after the departure of President Carter.
