Newly accredited Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Shen Qing, paid a courtesy call on the Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, Mr. Robert H.O. Corbin at his Congress Place office, Sophia on Monday, September 27, 2004.

Ambassador Shen Qing was accompanied by Mr. Ding Shengxing, Counselor to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

Mr. Winston Murray, CCH, MP, Chairman of the PNCR and the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly: Mrs. Clarissa Riehl, MP, Member of the Central Executive Committee and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly: Mr. Raphael Trotman, MP, Member of the PNCR Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee: Mr. Jerome Khan, MP, Member of the Central Executive Committee and Member of the Party’s Foreign Relations Committee: and Mr. Oscar Clarke, General Secretary of the Party were also present during the courtesy call and participated in the discussions.

The Party Leader cordially welcomed the new ambassador and expressed the wish that his tour of duty would be a successful one.

The two sides reviewed the state of relations between China and Guyana and between the PNCR and the Communist Party of China (CPC), which are characterized by a spirit of friendliness and cooperation and are based on the four principles of Independence, complete equality, mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs.

Ambassador Shen Qing extended an invitation on behalf of the CPC to the PNCR Leader for a high level delegation to pay an official visit to China at a convenient date in the near future.
