PRESS RELEASE People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. October 14, 2004

The People's National Congress Reform wishes to record its deep regret on the passing of a pioneer in Guyana’s timber industry, Mr. Nagasar Sawh and offers sincere condolences to family, especially, his son Mr. Dharamdeo Sawh, a former Member of Parliament and Minister in the PNC Government.

Mr. Sawh was an exemplary entrepreneur who for several decades pioneered the exploitation of our forestry resources and the development of forestry products. It was he who pioneered the mass production of walaba shingles which facilitated the wide use of this commodity for house roofing in Guyana. Guyana has truly lost a dedicated forestry pioneer.
