In keeping with the spirit of Christmas, the PNCR continued its programme of taking ‘Christmas Cheer’ to the underprivileged and less fortunate in our society. Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and Parliamentary Opposition, Mr. Robert H. O. Corbin, M. P., continued his Christmas Outreach Programme with a visit to the Archer Home, where he presented a Christmas gift of a washing machine to the Institution. Mr. Corbin was accompanied by Ms. Volda Lawrence, M. P., Director of the Human Services Department of the PNCR. The gift was made possible by the Miami Chapter of the PNCR.

In presenting the gift, Mr. Corbin, M. P., wished the members of the home, a peaceful and pleasant Christmas in good health. He reminisced on his visit to the Archer Home last Christmas where the PNCR had contributed to their Christmas Luncheon but he pointed out that the Party wanted to make a more lasting contribution that could be of use to the members of the Archer Home throughout the year.

Matron of the Archer Home, Ms. Wendy Johnson, received the gift on its behalf and expressed appreciation to the PNCR and more particularly to the Miami Chapter of the Party.

The PNCR Leader will continue his Christmas Outreach Programme this weekend with visits to Ammelia’s Ward – Linden, Riverview – Ruimveldt, and Goed Intent – Region 3, where he will be distributing toys to the children in the respective areas, with the compliments of friends and supporters of the PNCR. During each of these visits, the Party’s Leader will be accompanied by a team of Leaders from the Central Executive as well as Regional Party Leaders.

On Saturday, December 11, 2004, the Party’s women’s arm, the National Congress of Women, held its annual Christmas Party for children at the New Amsterdam Town Hall in Region 6. Approximately five hundred children from Canje to the East Bank Berbice villages, as well as from New Amsterdam were fetted and presented with toys and other gifts. On hand to help with the demanding task of serving the children and handing out gifts, was the Party Leader, Mr. Corbin, M. P., who also addressed the children on the meaning of Christmas. Also, on Sunday, December 12, 2004, a Party team headed by the Party Leader, visited several riverian communities in Regions 7 and 10 to take ‘Christmas cheer’ to the children and the elderly. Places visited included, Karatabo, Batavia, Karrow and Riverview. At each of the communities visited, the team was enthusiastically received and gratitude was expressed for the tokens distributed.
