Today, Monday, January 10, 2005, the Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Robert H. O. Corbin, MP, hosted a luncheon for Media Practitioners at the Water Chris Hotel. The Party’s Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Deborah Backer welcomed members of the media and the Party’s Chairman, Mr. Winston Murray, CCH, MP, thanked members of the media for their hard work over the past year in providing coverage and documenting matters of importance to the Party and to the country. He extended good wishes on behalf of the PNCR to them and their families for a Happy and Prosperous 2005.

The Leader of the PNCR, Mr. Robert Corbin also expressed his appreciation to all members of the Media, saying that the role they play is of vital importance to the nation. He stressed that the PNCR as a Party places a high premium on freedom of expression in Guyana and believes that the media must be given full scope to express itself fully without hindrance.

A vote of thanks on behalf of the media was offered by Mr. David De Cairies, Managing Director of Stabroek News. Mr. De Caires, thanked the PNCR for hosting the luncheon which in his view offered a good opportunity for the media to interact informally with key political persons in the society. He stressed the need of all media practitioners to remain objective and balanced in order to improve the profession as a whole.

Attending the lunch were representatives of all private and State media and members of the Central Executive Committee of the People’s National Congress Reform.
