PRESS RELEASE PNCR LEADER RETURNS TO GUYANA People’s National Congress Reform Flood Crisis Center February 22, 2005

The Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Mr. Robert Corbin MP returned to Guyana on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 after a successful visit to the United States of America. During his visit, Mr. Corbin was interviewed by NBC on Friday, February 18, 2005 and participated in a two hour call-in programme on WLIB on Saturday, February 19, 2005 in New York. On Sunday, February 20, 2005 he was interviewed by Derris Dean of VOA in Washington.

The Party Leader also held discussions with a religious group on Friday, February 18, 2005, which plans to feed twenty thousand (20,000) people in Guyana in April. He also attended several Guyanese social functions on Saturday evening in New York.

Mr. Corbin also attended a Public Forum on the Flood Disaster on Saturday, February 19, 2005 in Brooklyn during which a PNCR video entitled “Journal of the Flood” was shown to the audience on a large screen. The response was keen and enthusiastic. One thing that was clear to the Guyanese Diaspora was that the response of the Government to the crisis was inept. As a consequence, the view emerged that there was a need for a new Government in Guyana led by the PNCR. A similar Public Forum was held in Washington DC and the response was just as good and enthusiastic. The showing of the video in New York and Washington corroborated the information available to Guyanese in the USA; information which was based on independent reports they had received from relatives at home and experience they had gained from visiting their homeland.

The Leader of the PNCR was able to determine that morale was high among overseas Guyanese. There was an expressed commitment on their part to continue to work hard for a change at home.
