The High Commissioner of New Zealand to Guyana, Mr. Graham Kelly, paid a courtesy call on the Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, Mr. Robert H.O. Corbin at his Congress Place office, Sophia on Friday, March 18, 2005.

Mr. Winston Murray, CCH, MP, Chairman of the PNCR and the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly; Mrs. Clarissa Riehl, MP, Member of the Central Executive Committee and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly; Mr. Jerome Khan, MP, Member of the Central Executive Committee and Member of the Party’s Foreign Relations Committee and Mr. Oscar Clarke, General Secretary of the Party were also present during the courtesy call and participated in the discussions.

The Party Leader cordially welcomed the High Commissioner who is based in Canada and was paying his second visit to Guyana since his accreditation.

The High Commissioner thanked Mr. Corbin for receiving him and requested to be updated on progress made to date with the implementation of the May 6, 2003 Communiqué which Mr. Corbin and his team obliged. The High Commissioner expressed the view that as a sister Commonwealth country, New Zealand feels itself part of our process. Reference was made to the recent disastrous flood and the High Commissioner expressed his Government’s sympathy towards the loss of life and suffering experienced by the Guyanese people. He wished Guyana well in the recovery effort.
