PRESS RELEASE Caricom Day Message People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. Friday, July 01, 2005

On the ocassion of Caricom Day, the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR) calls on the people and leaders of the Region to reaffirm our commitment to the ideal of regional integration.

The Caricom ideal is faced with many difficulties as we grapple with the harsh trade regimes and their effect on our primary products, there are many problems of regional security and the threats posed by crime and the trade in narcotics.

Neverthesless there are acheivements and possibilities which we should note. In particular, during the past year, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) has been inaugurated as we signal another stage in our political independence and our maturity. Progress has been made in many regional programs and the establishment of the regional single market and economy moves forward even if we would hope for faster implantation. Our Party remains commitment to the cause of regional integration. We are proud of our role in the founding of the movement and of previous PNC administrations in its reaffirmation. It is in that light, we salute our Region and our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean network. We wish our Heads of Government and Leaders of the Opposition well as they deliberate on the future of our people. In the end, it is the will and support of our people, that will guarantee success.
