The People's National Congress Reform hosted the visiting delegation of British Members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on Thursday, August 4th. The six member delegation held substantial talks well past the scheduled duration with a delegation of PNCR MPs led by the Leader of the PNCR and of the Parliamentary Opposition, Mr. Robert Corbin MP. There was substantial discussions on political developments and the PNCR views on the way forward for Guyana.

The talks also considered:
• the drug menace in Guyana;
• the forthcoming General and Regional Election and the state of preparation by GECOM and the Guyana Government for the holding of elections in 2006;
• the jeopardies faced by the Guyana sugar industry posed by forthcoming changes in the sugar regime;
• the importance of new forms of governance for Guyana.

There was a lively exchange of views and the delegations left the meeting with a clear understanding of each other’s position on important development issues.
