PRESS RELEASE PNCR CONDUCTS MEDICAL OUTREACH IN REGION 6 People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. Wednesday, September 07, 2005

On Sunday, September 4, 2005, the People’s National Congress Reform conducted a Medical Outreach at the Rose Hall/Canje Welfare Centre ground in Region 6. The medical team was headed by Dr. Max Hanoman, MD, MP and Dr. Dalgleish Joseph MD, MP and included Dr. Fraser, dentist from Rose Hall Town, Corentyne. About 300 persons were seen and received medications and one was listed for surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to be done by Dr. Joseph.

Comments reported by the visiting doctors noted that there is a high incidence of hypertension and diabetes in the older folks, malnutrition in the children and skin infections in both the young and old. The incidence of skin infections should be properly investigated as the source of infection could be from the environment and health teams should visit the area to educate the people in hygiene and health care. Further advice on nutrition and dental care should be a priority.

Follow up visits by the PNCR will be done having identified these problems.

The outreach was a success and residents appreciated the exercise very much.
