PRESS RELEASE THE PNCR IS SHOCKED AND DISTRESSED BY THE REPORTED ACTS OF VANDALISM OF DRAINAGE STRUCTURES ON THE EAST COAST People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. Monday, January 23, 2006

There are reports that vandals have damaged drainage structures in the East Coast Demerara villages of Strathavon and Victoria. The PNCR is in the process of conducting its own investigations into these reports. On the assumption, however, that the press reports are accurate, we call on the perpetrators of these acts to recognise the senselessness and heartlessness of their actions and to desist from any further attempts to put their fellow citizens in deeper misery and suffering. No point could be made or no useful purpose served by these acts. Like all Guyanese, the PNCR is shocked and distressed by these acts of vandalism.

The Government, through its negligence and incompetence, has already allowed flood waters to destroy the homes, farms, businesses and health of hundreds of thousands of Guyanese. The people can take no more. We call on all Guyanese to help the authorities to deal with this problem.
