PRESS RELEASE People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. Monday, January 23, 2006

On Tuesday, January 17, 2006, the Leader of the People's National Congress Reform, Mr. Robert Corbin MP visited the No. 28 Village, West Coast Berbice to review the effects of the flood on the community. The residents of that village were very angry and had erected a road block to protest the Government’s neglect during their flood crisis and the fact that Government officials were bypassing them daily without rendering any assistance.

During the visit Mr. Corbin was taken around the village by the residents and he observed the conditions under which they were suffering due to the flood waters. The residents were very concerned about the drainage in their community and are asking that MMA officials take immediate action to get the pumps in working order to get the water off the land. They also suffered many losses of crops and livestocks and complained bitterly of the hardships they would have to face because of their losses. Mr. Corbin noted that one Nursery School which had on record 86 pupils only had an attendance of 3 pupils that day.

He also made stops at other villages such as Fyrish, Gibralter, Courtland and Eversham on the Corentyne.
