PRESS RELEASE People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. Tuesday, February 14, 2006

On Sunday, February 12, 2006 a delegation from the People's National Congress Reform including Vice-Chairperson Mrs. Deborah Backer, MP; Ms. Amna Ally MP; and Ms. Ann Green Executive Member of the NCW visited the home of slain female taxi driver, 41 year old Seerajie Singh at 7th Street, Success Village, East Coast Demerara.

The PNCR members were all visibly moved by the anguish of Mrs. Singh’s widower, their three children and other close relatives including the deceased sister, Patricia. All present spoke of the deceased as a hardworking woman, who worked side by side with her husband as they both sought to better their lives and the lives of their family.

The delegation also paid a follow up visit to Enid Edwards, the 73 year old widow of St. Joseph’s High School security guard, Cedric Edwards who was brutally murdered on Monday, January 23, 2006. Mrs. Edwards, a double amputee depended solely on her slain husband and his brutal murder, three weeks ago still has her completely traumatized.

The PNCR is deeply saddened, not only by the two brutal murders and the effect they have had on the Singh Family and on Mrs. Edwards but by the recent increase in the brutal slaying of ordinary law abiding Guyanese citizens. While offering condolences on behalf of the Party Leader and the Central Executive Committee to the bereaved families and relatives of the deceased, the Party calls on the Guyana Police Force to work tirelessly to bring to justice the perpetrators of all the unsolved horrific crimes that continue to plague our country.
