PRESS RELEASE SUBMISSION OF ONE GUYANA PNCR LIST OF CANDIDATES “PNCR for One Guyana – Moving Forward Together” People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana Wednesday, 26 July, 2006.

Today, 26 July, 2006, the (1 Guyana) People's National Congress Reform presented its list of Candidates to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM). The List is reflective of a conscious and deliberate effort, on the part of the PNCR, to put Guyana first with the aim of creating One Guyana. In the thrust to create One Guyana, the PNCR believes that our youth is fundamental to the creation of a united and dynamic Guyanese society. As a consequence, our Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) has been identified as the centre piece of our campaign efforts under the theme, “PNCR for One Guyana – Moving Forward Together.”

We are cognisant of the fact that the creation of such a society is dependent on an economy that attracts investments, delivers jobs and brings prosperity.

The composition of this List reflects the skills, talent and experience required to sustain such a programme. This will be complemented by other expertise, both in Guyana and the Diaspora. After a PNCR victory, we will be working with all who are prepared to put Guyana first to create One Guyana that is prosperous and well governed.

The List represents a wide cross section of Guyanese including youth, all ethnic groups, our indigenous people, the private sector, professionals and women. The List represents a good mixture of youth and experience.

While we have submitted this List, we wish to draw attention to the many flaws we have previously identified in the electoral preparations, especially those that relate to the List itself. We remain deeply concerned about the quality of this List on which these elections are being held. Nevertheless, we look forward anxiously to the measures promised by GECOM to avoid the electoral irregularities and fraud.

If Guyana is to enjoy peace and prosperity, GECOM has the responsibility to conduct elections that meet the international standards for being classified as free, fair and transparent.

The One Guyana PNCR will hold our Special Delegates Congress on Sunday, 30 July, 2006, that will discuss and refine our electoral programme and platform for VICTORY.
