PRESS RELEASE PNCR LEADER SAY MR. CN SHARMA ENTITLED TO A PARLIAMENTARY SEAT People’s National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia Georgetown, Guyana Monday, November 20, 2006

In his address to General Council last Saturday, November 18, 2006, the Leader of the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR), Mr. Robert Corbin, MP, informed members of the Council that the latest available information suggest that cases being made out by the Alliance for Change (AFC) and the Justice For All Party (JFAP) over the elections results have merit. Mr. Corbin pointed out that the latest information revealed that the JFAP should be entitled to a seat in the Parliament. The AFC should also be entitled to the Region 10 Geographic seat in the Parliament albeit they may have to give up one of their Top-Up seats as they would still only be entitled to five (5) seats overall. In such a situation the PPP would have to give up a seat in Parliament.

Mr. Corbin emphasised that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) had a constitutional responsibility to ensure that the will of the electorate is reflected in the composition of the Parliament and the Regional Democratic Councils. As a consequence, he, as representative of the PNCR-1G List of Candidates wrote the Chairman of GECOM requesting action on the matter. He stated that as a matter of principle the Party was obligated to pursue the justice of the matter and lend support to Mr. C.N. Sharma’s case in particular.

Attached is a copy of the letter sent by the Leader of the PNCR to the Chairman of GECOM.
