Sir Paul Reeves, Special Envoy of the Commonwealth Secretary General paid a farewell courtesy call on Mr. Robert Corbin MP, the Leader of the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR) and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, at his office, Congress Place, Sophia, on Wednesday, November 22, 2006.

Sir Paul Reeves was appointed Special Envoy to Guyana by the Commonwealth Secretary General in August 2002 with special responsibilities for providing good offices in finding solutions to many of the intractable problems plaguing the country. After four (4) years and fourteen (14) visits of quiet diplomacy, Sir Paul is returning to his native, New Zealand fully satisfied with his accomplishments and high in praise of the co-operation he received from Guyanese Leaders and the public alike.

During their meeting, Sir Paul and Mr. Corbin exchaged views on the current situation in Guyana and propects for the future. In thanking Sir Paul for the skillful way he went about his assigment, Mr. Corbin requested that he conveys to the Commonwealth Secretary General, his and the Party’s gratitude for all the assistance rendered to Guyana during his sojourn as Special Envoy to Guyana.

Accompanying Sir Paul Reeves was Ms. Juliet Solomon, Special Advisor (Caribbean and Pacific) of the Commonwealth Secretariat, while Mr. Corbin’s delegation included Ms. Clarissa Riehl MP, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Aubrey Norton, MP, Ms. Africo Selman, MP and Mr. Oscar Clarke, General Secretary of the PNCR.
