On Sunday, December 10, 2006, the Human Services and Welfare Department of the People's National Congress Reform held its annual Christmas Luncheon for Senior Citizens at the New Amsterdam Multilateral School in Region 6. The event commenced with prayers and carol singing followed by welcoming remarks by Angelique Bennett, opening remarks by Ms. Volda Lawrence, Director of the Human Services Department and a brief address by Mr. Robert Corbin, Leader of the PNCR.

The Human Services and Welfare Department has been hosting Christmas luncheons in various Regions over the years with this year’s event being hosted by the PNCR Human Services Committee of Region 6 which is headed by Ms. Jennifer Conway.

In her remarks, Ms. Lawrence highlighted the activities of the Human Services and Welfare Department, an arm of the Party which reaches out to the needs of Party members and Guyanese from all walks of life. She also spoke of the traditions of the Christmas season and the way in which the Party appreciates the Elderly in showing them love and care despite the fact that the Party cannot visit with them as often as they would like. She expressed the Party’s gratitude towards Senior Citizens for their many contributions.

In his address, Mr. Corbin wished them all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year on behalf of the entire leadership of the Party and expressed his pleasure at being able to visit Berbice and to celebrate with them at this time of the year. He also expressed many thanks for their contributions towards the Party in the past wishing them peace of mind and best wishes and hoped that whatever illnesses they may have, they will overcome them.

Gifts and Certificates of appreciation were offered to the Senior Citizens with the event concluding with songs and dances.
