PRESS RELEASE CHINESE AMBASSADOR CALLS ON THE PNCR LEADER People's National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, Guyana. Friday, December 15, 2006



The recently accredited Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Guyana, His Excellency, Mr. Zhang Jungao, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Robert Corbin MP, the Leader of the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR) and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, at his office, Congress Place, Sophia, on Friday, December 15, 2006.

During their meeting, Mr. Jungao and Mr. Corbin exchanged views on the current situation in Guyana and propects for the future. Ambassador Jungao expressed the view that good relations had existed between Guyana and the People’s Republic of China and he was therefore confident that they would be expanded during his tenure with the support of the PNCR.

The PNCR Leader, in agreeing with Ambassador Jungao, said that relations had always been good and he praised China for the remarkable economic strides it had made over the last three decades. Mr. Corbin said that he had previously visited China in 1976 and 1985 and could therefore see the vast improvements made over intervals of a decade when he last visited in 2005.

The PNCR Leader and Ambassador Jungao committed themselves to working closely to ensure the maintenance of good relations and the strengthening of them in the years ahead.
