On Saturday, May 12, 2007, the Parent Teachers’ Association and the Staff of 8th of May Secondary School in collaboration with the residents of Dartmouth, Essequibo, held their annual “8th May” activities which commemorated the Birth Anniversary of a son of the soil, the late Dr. Ptolemy Alexander Reid, O.E., former Prime Minister of Guyana and Deputy Leader of the People’s National Congress.

The well organised programme showcased a number of young persons vying for various titles. The title “8th May Queen” attracted thirteen (13) contestants, while four (4) contestants participated in the “Sari” pageant. The males were not to be left out and eight (8) young men vied for the title of Senior Mr. Physique while seven (7) participated in the Junior Mr. Physique contests.

Ms. Saskia Williams was crowned the 8th May Queen while Ms. Sonia Dindyal copped the Best Sari in that category. Mr. Shawn Gillis won the Junior Mr. Physique while Mr. Lance Ceasar walked away with the title of Senior Mr. Physique.

At the end of the evening’s activities the audience were totally pleased with the performances of all those who participated. They left the evening’s activity looking forward to a bigger an even better programme for next year.
