Press Release People’s National Congress Reform Congress Place, Sophia Georgetown, Guyana. Tuesday, February 5, 2008

The Leader, Central Executive Committee and the general membership of the People’s National Congress Reform wishes to inform that it is with shock and sadness that we learnt of the sudden passing of our esteemed comrade Mr. Deryck Milton Alexander Bernard at the age of 57.

The PNCR wishes to express our condolences to his family and the friends of this outstanding son of Guyana. The passing of Mr. Bernard is an irreplaceable loss that our Party and country can ill-afford at this moment.

Mr. Bernard served the people of Guyana with distinction as Permanent Secretary, Member of Parliament, Minister of Education, educator and academic. At the level of our Party he served as Central Executive member, Member of Parliament, Organiser and Director of Policy Development.

His melodious voice that soothed many an audience while strumming his guitar will be etched in our memories forever. His involvement and contribution to the work of the Methodist Church in particular, and the Christian religion in general, will no doubt be missed.

The PNCR will at a later date pay a full tribute and be involved in the funeral and other activities related to the passing of our friend and colleague, Mr. Deryck Milton Alexander Bernard.

May his Soul Rest in Peace.
