PRESS RELEASE NCW CONDEMNS THE MANNER IN WHICH A 15 YEAR OLD FEMALE WAS ARRESTED BY THE JOINT FORCES

The National Congress of Women (NCW), the women’s arm of the People’s National Congress Reform, wishes to record its disgust over the continued clashes between the Joint Forces and the residents of Buxton.

The NCW has been advised that in the course of the execution of operation to restore order, the Joint Forces picked up men, women and children for questioning. The NCW has also been informed that in the course of the operation a fifteen (15) year old girl was among those arrested.

We condemn the fact that there was no female officer to do this arrest. We also condemn the fact that the young lady was body searched by the male members of the force. We further condemn the fact that the young lady was improperly dressed when she was taken from her home.

The NCW wishes to remind the members of the Joint Forces that they were all brought into this world by mothers; that they may all have sisters; that some of them may also have daughters; and that they must have some respect for our women folk. The NCW wishes to note that they would not like the same unconscionable treatment to be meted out to their families.

The NCW wishes to remind the Joint Forces commend that, while it supports all legal and constitutional actions by our security forces, it will speak-out against any unlawful excesses by members of our security services. The NCW urges the members of the joint services to seek to win the cooperation of residents of that community rather than alienate them.
