BUXTON MASH TRAMP-- PRESS RELEASE Wednesday, March 04, 2009

Residents of Buxton came out in large numbers on Sunday, March 1, 2009, for their annual Mashramani celebrations. The event was very colourful as most Buxtonians were outfitted in beautiful costumes, some of them with attractive headgear. The music, which was a mixture of catchy soca was provided by a resident. The event was organised by the Buxton Spice Mango Girls and the business community in Buxton. What was noteworthy was the fact that the entire celebrations went off without incident and was orderly throughout under the control of Marshalls in the absence of the police.

The Mash tramp began on the Railway Embankment and proceeded through the Church of God Road to the Main Public Road. It then made its way through Company Road and back to the Embankment through Friendship Road where they congregated at the Buxton Community Centre Ground.

The Leader of the PNCR, Mr. Robert H.O. Corbin, M.P., who participated in the celebrations, in brief remarks commended the organisers for the splendid turn out and noted that the entire celebration was incident free. He further urged them to continue celebrating Mashramani every year in unity and in peace.
