AMBASSADOR OF MEXICO CALLS ON THE PNCR LEADER--PRESS RELEASE Wednesday, April 15, 2009




On Wednesday, April 15th, 2009, H.E. Fernando Sandoval Flores, the Ambassador of Mexico paid a courtesy call on the Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Robert H.O. Corbin at his Congress Place, Sophia office.

Mr. Corbin was accompanied by Mr. Clement Corlette, Regional Chairman of Region # 4 and Mr. Ronald Austin, Head of the Party’s Public Relations Department and member of the PNCR’s Foreign Relations Committee.

Ambassador Fernando Flores and Mr. Corbin exchanged views on a number of important issues of interest to both Mexico and the PNCR. The Ambassador explained that Mexico was improving relations with the English speaking Caribbean and Guyana was considered an important “bridge” between Latin America and the rest of the region. Turning to the issue of the narcotic trade in the region and its effects on their respective societies, Mr. Corbin and the Ambassador agreed that any approach to reducing the scourge of drugs would entail collaboration with all of the States in the region, including the USA which has the largest consumption rate.

Mr. Corbin and Ambassador Flores also exchanged views on how the relationship between the PNCR and the ruling political party in Mexico could be improved. They both agreed that they could learn from each others, perceptions and insights both as regards the internal situation in Guyana and developments in Mexico. Mr. Corbin and Ambassador Flores both indicated that they look forward to further meetings and exchanges on matters of common interest.
