NORWEGIAN AMBASSADOR CALLS ON PNCR LEADER -- PRESS RELEASE Wednesday 11 November 2009




Today, 12 November 2009, the new Norwegian Ambassador to Guyana, H.E. Torbjørn Holthe paid a courtesy call on the Leader of the PNCR and Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Robert Corbin at his Congress Place, Sophia office. Accompanying Ambassador Holthe was Ms. Nina Dew. Also present at the meeting were General Secretary of the Party, Mr. Oscar Clarke, Opposition Chief Whip, Mr. E. Lance Carberry, M.P., and member of the International Relations Committee of the Party, Ms. Africo Selman, M.P.

The Norwegian Ambassador and the Party Leader exchanged views on a wide range of issues including the Party’s position on the Government’s Low Carbon Development plan. The Ambassador took the opportunity to explain his Government’s expectations including the need for a national consensus on the strategic development plan. Mr. Corbin thanked the Ambassador for his visit and the insights which they shared.

Ambassador Holthe is married with three children and has a Degree in Law from the University of Oslo. The Norwegian Ambassador served at missions in Lagos, Nigeria; Madrid, Spain; New Delhi, India; and Rio De Janiero, Brazil. Before his assignment as the Ambassador to Guyana, he served as the Senior Advisor in the Department for Culture, Public Diplomacy and Protocol with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
