PNCR SEEKS FLOOD RELIEF FOR RESIDENTS OF REGION #2--PRESS RELEASE Thursday 16 September 2010

The PNCR General Secretary, Mr. Oscar Clarke, yesterday, Wednesday 15 September 2010, made an appeal to the Hon. Robert Persaud, MBA, Minister of Agriculture, for emergency aid (flood relief) to the people of Lower Pomeroon between Akawini Creek and St. John, whose livelihood was completely destroyed as a result of recent flooding due to the unusually high tides. The Hon. Minister promised to approach the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) through Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon for emergency aid to be dispatched to the residents of the area.

Reports from the area indicate that several breaches have occurred to the river defence dam, thereby, causing flood waters to inundate the entire area which resulted in heavy losses to the farming communities.
