PNCR LEADER SIGNS BOOK OF CONDOLENCE AND ATTENDS STATE FUNERAL FOR HON. DAVID THOMPSON--PRESS RELEASE Tuesday 2 November 2010




The Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform and Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition, Mr. Robert H.O. Corbin, M.P., left Guyana today, Tuesday 2nd November 2010 for Barbados to attend the State funeral for the late Barbados Prime Minister, Hon. David John Howard Thompson, which will take place tomorrow Wednesday 3rd November 2010 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, the Barbados Capital.

Before leaving Guyana, Mr. Corbin who could not be present when the Party delegation led by the Party Chairman, Mr. Bishwaishwar Ramsaroop, C.C.H., signed the Book of Condolence at the CARICOM Secretariat on Monday 1st November, took the opportunity to do so today, Tuesday 2nd November, 2010.

After a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer, Mr. Thompson died on Saturday 23rd October 2010 at his former home in Barbados with his wife and children at his bedside. The Party had previously issued a statement expressing condolence to the wife, Mara, and three children (Misha, Oya and Osa), mother, Margaret Knight, the other members of his family, relatives, friends, members of his Cabinet, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), and all of the people of Barbados, on the sad passing of Mr. Thompson.

On the occasion of the State funeral, the PNCR joins the entire Caribbean political fraternity in bidding a fond farewell to this young Caribbean leader who during his too short lifespan, made an indelible mark on the evolving Caribbean Nation.
