PNCR LEADER CHARTS WAY FORWARD - Wed. August 8, 2012

Newly-elected Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Brigadier David Granger visited Vreed-en-Hoop on Tuesday evening, 7th August 2012, to discuss the way forward with Party members. The Brigadier also took the opportunity to convey his gratitude to Party members in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Region 3 for their strong support for the Party’s campaign.

Newly-elected Party Chairman, Mr. Basil Williams called for a unified PNCR to provide leadership to A Partnership for National Unity. He told the gathering that it was time for the PNCR to consolidate and prepare to be the next Government of Guyana.

Dubbing his presentation the “Declaration of Vreed-en-Hoop,” Brigadier Granger promulgated a 10-point plan to move the Party forward. He said that the plan had evolved from his interactions with Party members and as such came from the aspirations of the people he had been meeting over the last two years.

The Leader of the PNCR called on members to embark on a massive membership drive to strengthen the Party and to broaden its base. He identified the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM) and the National Congress of Women (NCW) for rebuilding and a resurgence of activism and called for a return of Party pride and for Party members not allow the skewed views of others to make them ashamed to speak of the many accomplishments of the PNC in Government.

Brigadier Granger said that under his leadership internal Party democracy will be paramount and charged Party members with mobilizing and registering for local government elections in order to take control of local democratic organs.

Also in the 10 point plan was rebuilding public services and institutionalizing Inclusive democracy as a tenet of the Party. Brigadier Granger said that under his leadership the Party will continue to build bridges to other communities. He said, “we must be able to sit down as Guyanese, putting aside ethnic labels”. He emphasized the importance of rebuilding the PNCR’s historic relationships with trade unions, ensuring fundamental rights for all and reforming relations in the National Assembly.

The Leader told members that the PNCR’s policy was to find ways to increase wealth not to recycle poverty. He called on the Party to think about enterprises saying, “you have to become businessmen and women, you have to produce, you have to be educated and ensure that your children are educated so that they could find gainful employment...”

Brigadier Granger was accompanied by Party Chairman, Mr. Basil Williams MP, Party Regional Chairman, Mr. John Adams MP, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms. Deborah Backer MP, Mr. Joseph Harmon MP, and several members of the Regional Democratic Council.
