PNCR PRAISES VOLUNTEERS ON WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY - Saturday 18th August 2012

The People’s National Congress Reform has praised Guyana’s volunteer humanitarian workers and non-governmental organisations on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, 2012.

Leader of the PNCR, Brigadier David Granger commended the contribution of humanitarians to the life of the country. Many volunteers provide life-saving assistance by placing their own lives at risk to help others in maritime accidents and floods. Others have quietly provided succor and support for vulnerable persons who face daily challenges such as domestic violence, homelessness, hunger and destitution. Others help to supply clean water, improve access to sanitation and dispose of waste in a responsible manner.

Women and children in rural and hinterland areas of Guyana have been especially affected because of their daily struggle against poverty, insecurity, hunger, poor health and environmental degradation caused by unregulated and reckless mining, logging and solid waste disposal.

The People’s National Congress Reform, on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, 2012, calls not only for the recognition of the efforts of humanitarians but also for greater commitment by the government to protect citizens from environmental hazard.
