PNCR EXPRESSES SORROW OVER THE DEATH OF LIEUTENANT COLONEL (RET.) DR OSCAR HAMILTON, AA, - Friday 21st September 2012



The People’s National Congress Reform has expressed its sorrow on the death of Lieutenant Colonel (ret) Dr. Oscar Ernest Llewellyn Hamilton A.A. who passed away on 13th September 2012.

The PNCR noted that Dr. Hamilton was a respected medical practitioner who gave exemplary public service to Guyana. For this, he received the national award of the Golden Arrow of Achievement.

Dr. Hamilton was born in Den Amstel Village in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Region. He qualified as a medical doctor in the United Kingdom and enlisted in the Medical Corps of the Guyana Defence Force on 1st November 1969. He served continuously as Force Medical Officer for 27 years until his retirement on 28th February 1998.

Dr. Hamilton served also as the Medical Officer of Health at the Mayor and City Council; as a member of the Medical Council of the Ministry of Health and as a medical officer at the Georgetown Hospital and other hospitals. He was the personal physician of the late President Desmond Hoyte and his wife Joyce.

The PNCR places on record Dr. Hamilton’s lifelong public service and extends condolences to his widow Joy Avril, née Marshall, and his children.
